You Need Writing Glasses

If you wear reading glasses to read, you really should be wearing writing glasses to write. And—boom—right there, you’re thinking, “How much is ‘Deep Optometry’ paying you to?” Honestly, nothing (not that I’d mind) and, in fact, they are missing a golden opportunity to sell you another pair of glasses, glasses you would gladly pay for. Let me explain…

In fact, better than explaining, let me demonstrate. Grab a book and hold it at your normal reading distance. What is it? Twelve inches? Sixteen? Whatever it is, keep it in mind while you mosey over to your computer and plop down in front of it. Now check how far away the screen is from your eyes. Twenty inches? Twenty-four? Although that difference between book and screen may not seem much, if you’re using the same glasses for both, you’re probably missing acuity and clarity that can diminish your stamina and, perhaps more importantly, your pleasure in reading.

The solution is easy. The next time you have an eye exam, ask for a computer-screen prescription in addition to your regular reading prescription. Make sure you measure the distance from your eyes to the computer screen and give that to your optometrist; that will enable the optometrist create a precisely modified prescription for your computer reading.

Then, of course, buy some fabulous frames.
